Independent developer 17-BIT has released the soundtrack to Skulls of the Shogun, through Bandcamp, Amazon mp3 and iTunes.

The turn-based strategy game score for PC, Xbox Live Arcade and Windows Phone takes as its inspiration classic samurai films. The soundtrack is composed of five tracks by Tokyo-based DJ Makyo, with two additional dub excursions by composer Sam Bird.

"I usually work with Indian and middle-eastern instruments in Makyo, so this was a nice chance to explore Japanese instrumentation for a change," explains the composer. "Each season needed to have a different feel, so I made a point of using different instrumentation for every track, including shamisen, shakuhachi, and sanshin."

“Between the zombie samurai and the request for music blending an
old Kurosawa film with Dub, I pretty much had no choice but to jump aboard,” added Sam Bird. 17 Bit's CEO, Jake Kazdal, served as executive producer on the soundtrack release.
