Dust: An Elysian Tail soundtrack preorders open
The original soundtrack to Dust: An Elysian Tail by HyperDuck SoundWorks and Alex Brandon is now available for preorder on Bandcamp at a reduced price. The album will return to its original price on Monday, when the full 37-track, 107-minute soundtrack to the XBLA title is released and streaming in full online.
Eiko Ishiwata talks Final Fantasy-inspired game scores
Vancouver-based composer Eiko Ishiwata wrote the original score for Hogworld: Gnart's Adventure, an iOS storybook nominated for Best Children's Game at the 2012 Nordic Game Awards. She spoke with 1UP.com's Chiptuned Blog on how arranging music from the Final Fantasy series informed her work as a composer.
FTL (Faster Than Light) soundtrack on Bandcamp
Ben Prunty has posted the soundtrack to space simulation roguelike FTL (Faster Than Light) for Windows, Mac and Linux. The composer comments, "tracks 1-14 are the low-key, relaxing Explore pieces, while tracks 15-29 make up the exciting, fast-paced Battle music" for the complete score, streaming in full on Bandcamp.
Spamtron scores one-button jumper "Escape"
Spamtron of Flavortron, Bagu and the Riverman, and Rokko Chan Soundtracks contributed background music to browser game Escape just over one year ago. Created for the Ludum Dare competition, the one-button jumper centers on a single-input mechanic, much like Canabalt.
Merlandese's Fleuret Blanc. soundtrack released
The soundtrack to the indie game Fleuret Blanc. by Lannie "Merlandese" Neely III and Michael "Garoad" Kelly has been published through Bandcamp. The free game invites you to explore a small French manor, interacting with its residents to collect clues and investigate its secrets.
Patrice Bourgeault scores Mercenary Kings
Patrice Bourgeault of the chiptune soundtrack to Ninja Senki will be scoring Mercenary Kings, planned for release through Steam by Tribute Games. The sprite-based sidescrolling shooter, featuring sound design by Jean Chan, will be crowdfunding through Kickstarter until September 13.
The Basement Collection bundled with soundtracks
The Basement Collection by Super Meat Boy designer Edmund McMillen has been released for PC and Mac through Steam. The compilation comes bundled with numerous extras, including over 30 music tracks by Danny Baranowsky (Grey Matter), Justin Karpel (TIME FCUK) and Tyler Glaiel (Aether).
La-Mulana headed to WiiWare on September 20
Independent developer Nigoro has partnered with EnjoyUp Games of Barcelona to release La-Mulana for WiiWare in North America and Europe. The sprite-based archaeological adventure title will make its English-language console debut on September 20, featuring music by Takumi Naramura and Houryu Samejima.
Daniel Olsén scores iOS shooter Alpha Zero
Tobias Carlsson and Daniel Olsén, composer of the score to Southend Interactive's Xbox Live Arcade puzzle game ilomilo, are writing original music for developer Funkoi's iOS shooter Alpha Zero. A teaser trailer has been posted to YouTube, with its background track also streaming on the co-composer's SoundCloud page.
Closure bound for Steam on September 7
Closure, the PlayStation Network puzzle game by Tyler Glaiel and Jon Schubbe, will be making its way to Mac and PC via Steam on September 7. The Independent Games Festival Award-winning music score by composer Christopher Rhyne was featured in the Nubuwo Summer Bundle initiative on Kickstarter in June.
Rokko Chan Original Soundtrack mastered release available for "name your price" on Bandcamp
Rokko Chan Original Soundtrack by Asagen of Hokkaido, Japan has been mastered for release on compact disc by Pocket Groovy, aka Yoshi Miyamoto. Download the 27-track album from Bandcamp for "name your price" and 100% of all payments will go to the Rokko Chan development team responsible for the freeware action game.
They Bleed Pixels soundtrack arrives
Gothic low-fi platforming beat’em up They Bleed Pixels by Spooky Squid Games will be released for PCs through Steam on August 29. The full soundtrack "They Bleed Pixels on the Dance Floor" by DJ FINISH HIM (Shaun Hatton) is currently available to stream online in full through Bandcamp.
Gamercamp 2012 speakers announced
Retro City Rampage co-composer Leonard J. Paul and Dyad designer Shawn McGrath are among the first round of speakers announced for the 2012 Gamercamp festival. Celebrating creativity in games, the annual event organized by Mark Rabo and Jaime Woo will take place November 3 and 4 in Toronto, Canada.
