The Game Developers Conference's Independent Games Festival has announced the 2013 finalists for the Excellence in Audio award category. They are Kentucky Route Zero (Cardboard Computer), Bad Hotel (Lucky Frame), 140 (Jeppe Carlsen), Hotline Miami (Dennaton Games) and PixeljJunk 4am (Q-Games).

Spanish game composer Gryzor87 has released the soundtrack to developer Locomalito's latest freeware title, the Ghost'n'Goblins-esque Maldita Castilla. The free-to-download 39-track game score emulates the Yamaha YM2203 sound chip to recreate the feel of a 1985 arcade game. Cover art is by Jacobo Garcia.

Grammy Award-winning composer Christopher Tin has scored Jordan Mechner's iOS remake of the classic martial arts fighting game Karateka. The composer is best known for his music for Civilization IV and album Calling All Dawns, which received the historic first Grammys awarded to music written for a game.
