Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition on Steam
Independent developer 17-BIT has announced award-winning strategy game Skulls of the Shogun will be available for PC through Steam in July as the "Bone-A-Fide Edition." Music is by DJ Makyo and Sam Bird, while game-inspired rapper Mega Ran has recorded a Skulls of the Shogun hip-hop track for the new intro.
Square Sounds 2013 Tokyo lineup announced
Tokyo-based chip music netlabel Cheapbeats has announced the lineup for the 2013 Square Sounds live music festival, planned for September 28 and 29 at Koenji High. Participating artists include A_Rival, Cheapshot, Danimal Cannon, Hally, DJ Master Kohta, m7kenji, Minikomi, No Carrier, Saitone and Sexy-Synthesizer.
Aliceffekt's Dei Dain album streaming on Bandcamp
Game designer Devine Lu Linvega released his point-and-click adventure title Hiversaires last month for iOS and Android devices. Two tracks from his new Aliceffekt album "Dei Dain" are currently available to stream in full through Bandcamp. The artist will be performing live on Wednesday with Mega Ran in Tokyo.
Madmilky / Mega Ran play Osaka's Game Bar Continue
Madmilky Records co-founders NNNNNNNNNN and TORIENA will perform live Game Boy music at Game Bar Continue in Osaka on Monday, June 24 together with game-inspired hip-hop artists Mega Ran and DJ DN3. Mega Ran and Street Fighter IV's Eicheph live June 20
Game-inspired hip-hop artist Mega Ran will be performing live on stage with special guest Sexy-Synthesizer on Thursday, June 20 at the Kiwa music venue in Tokyo. Preceding the performance will be an improvisational modular synthesizer set by Hideyuki Fukasawa, Nobuhiko Nakayama and Hajime Nagai of Denshi Kaimen.
Grant Kirkhope scores Disney's Castle of Illusion
Banjo-Kazooie composer Grant Kirkhope is scoring Disney Interactive's high definition remake of Sega Genesis sidescroller Castle of Illusion, starring Mickey Mouse. An E3 trailer has been released this week for the game, currently in development for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC.
Mega Ran Japan Tour opens with Daikanyama M show
The Mega Ran Japan Tour, taking place between June 19 and 29, will open with a show at the Daikanyama M event space in Tokyo. The show will feature live performances by Mega Ran and DJ DN3, Hiversaires game designer Aliceffekt, chip musician Hige Driver (chip style) and keyboard game cover artist Professor Sakamoto.
James Primate's Gnomoria soundtrack on Bandcamp
The official two-part soundtrack to the sandbox gnome survival village management game Gnomoria by indie developer Robotronic features two distinctly categorized track types. "Classic" themes are composed of retro chiptune sounds, while "Modern" arrangements sport a more contemporary orchestral soundtrack style.
David Wise scores Donkey Kong Country for Wii U
David Wise, co-composer on the original Donkey Kong Country Super Nintendo trilogy, is currently writing music for the Wii U title Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, unveiled this week at E3. The sidescrolling action game, developed by Metroid Prime creator Retro Studios, is due out toward the end of 2013.
